Supra again

yup, thats why i think this tech spec is more likely an IS coupe/convertible..
I wouldnt mind this design with a targa and the 3.5 306hp v6...lets say for 28k? if they wanna have a v8 option with a bloated price thats gonna compete with their Lexus models, they need to figure out what they are doing....
or you know, maybe this is actually the next SC ???

I really doubt the Supra we get will start under $33,000-$35,000. It could, but i doubt it. If it did, then it would be smart for Toyota but time will tell if they learn from the past.

um...i dont like it...looks liek a mr2 in the front trying to evolve into a maserati...i see absolutely no resemblence to any of the previous supras and would be embarassed to call that a toyota supra...just my opinion

I have gotten some insider info. I shall play Kenobi for a moment here...
Look towards the hybrid frontier for the new Supra. 3.5L prob, but prob with HSD (bybrid synergy drive) as well. Don't expect to see turbos - Toyota learned with the last one, and we make enough HP without them lately. My guess - GS450h platform, shortened wheelbase, similar output. Keep your eyes on that car.
Can't name my source - let's just say "the internet told me so".

p.s. the technology driving the Volta is pretty old now, not that cutting edge... its actually just a 3.3V6 and the HSD system, similarly arranged to the setup in the GS450h
If I remember correctly, it had a combined output of 330-400hp, w/ a 0-60 of 4 seconds. Not that impressive but good none the less. The only thing really expensive about this car would be lightweight materials (it was 1300kg I think-and they could easily use less aluminium and slightly increase weight) and the fact that it was designed by italdesign. Now dont get me wrong, I agree 100% in that its more lexus like ....nor likely is it to be produced, just that I dont think it'd be in the 100k region of pricing.
and yeah, I heard the same about standard v6, v8 option

I'm thinkin' 3.5 V6 and 4.6 V8 versions. Both rear wheel drive models with a possibility of AWD on the V6 like the new IS lineup.
Price probably mid-upper 20's for RWD V6 and mid 30's for V8 model to compete with 350Z, Mustang, S2000, etc.
Only time will tell.

What made the supra a good platform was the decent chassis and the 2JZ, the import version of a bulletproof big-block.
It's too bad nowadays new cars are comming from the factory so innebriated with new tech and integration, you end up fighting and disabling most of it to get to a good platform to build off.
Unfortunately it seems the legacy powerplants are going to be a different breed.

The original supra appealed a lot to the tuner crowd - stock turbo, strong block to build on. The new one just looks like a normal sports car with v6 and v8.
Doesnt it seem that companies now are throwing away turbo designs and are going with larger displacement? Too many people with blown motors, ones that try to squaze monster hp out of them?
